Glacier Range Riders Walk Off RedPocket Mobiles on ABS Challenge
KALISPELL, Mont. - The Glacier Range Riders earned one of their most dramatic wins in franchise history Wednesday night, defeating the RedPocket Mobiles 2-1 in walk-off fashion at Glacier Bank Park thanks to an overturned call through the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, Carson Hornung appeared to have a 3-1 count, when the home plate umpire called a 3-0 pitch a strike. Hornung immediately challenged the call using the ABS system, and the pitch was overturned to ball four, forcing home the winning run and sending the Range Riders to a walk-off victory.
The contest featured a pitchers' duel for much of the evening, as Glacier hurlers combined to strike out nine while RedPocket Mobiles pitchers recorded six strikeouts.
The Mobiles broke the scoreless tie in the top of the eighth when Hector Nieves drove in the game's first run with a groundout.
Glacier answered in the bottom half of the inning as Jake Millan launched a game-tying solo home run to left field on the sixth pitch of his at-bat, knotting the score at 1-1.
Connor Housley picked up the victory after tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Agnel Miranda was charged with the loss after allowing the winning run in the ninth.
Range Riders starter Zach Longshore was outstanding, allowing just five hits over six scoreless innings while striking out seven and issuing no walks. Alex Bustamante bridged the gap with two innings of relief before Housley closed the door.
RedPocket Mobiles starter Adam Christopher matched Longshore for much of the night, surrendering just one run on four hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out five.
Logan Beard, JD McLaughlin, Jake Millan, and Tommy Rover each collected a hit for Glacier. Millan drove in the tying run with his eighth-inning homer, while Hornung delivered the game-winning RBI on the dramatic walk-off walk.
The Mobiles and the Range Riders match up again on Thursday night, with first pitch coming at 6:35 PM at Glacier Bank Park.
