Range Riders Route Paddleheads on Father's Day
KALISPELL, Mont. — The Glacier Range Riders matched a franchise record with 21 runs scored at home and set a new club mark with a 10-run first inning, routing the Missoula PaddleHeads 21-2 on Sunday afternoon at Glacier Bank Park.
The 10-run opening frame was the highest-scoring inning in franchise history and helped fuel an offensive outburst that tied the most runs ever scored by the Range Riders in a home game.
Kyle Ashworth led the charge, driving in seven runs on three hits. Ashworth doubled home two runs during the historic first inning, launched a grand slam in the second, and added a sacrifice fly in the sixth. He finished just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Missoula briefly grabbed the lead in the top of the first when Will Bermudez connected for a solo home run to left field, but Glacier immediately responded with one of the most explosive innings in franchise history.
The Range Riders sent 15 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, scoring 10 runs on seven hits. The biggest blow came from Carson Garner, who ripped a bases-clearing triple after a seven-pitch at-bat to cap the inning.
Glacier wasn't finished.
Ashworth's grand slam to right field highlighted a four-run second inning as the Range Riders extended the lead to 14-1. Jacob Steele later added a solo homer in the fifth before Garner launched a three-run homer in the seventh.
Garner joined Ashworth among the day's offensive stars, collecting three hits and finishing just a double short of the cycle.
The Range Riders piled up 18 hits overall. Garner, Ashworth, and Steele each recorded three-hit performances, while JD McLaughlin, Alex Fernandes, and Johnny Luetzow added multiple-hit games. Fernandes also drew three walks as Glacier worked seven free passes on the afternoon.
Chris Canada started for Glacier and allowed two runs (one earned) over four innings while striking out six. Lance Wade earned the victory with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit. Jacob Hasty and Alex Bustamante combined to shut down the PaddleHeads over the final three frames.
Missoula's offense was limited to five hits. Bermudez and Jeremy Piatkiewicz each drove in a run, while Michael Koszewski recorded two hits.
The victory capped one of the most dominant offensive performances in franchise history, as the Range Riders tied their home record with 21 runs and established a new benchmark with a 10-run first inning.
